Easily identified by its chestnut crown and black and white plumage, the Woodchat Shrike returns to the Alpujarras from tropical Africa to breed in Spring. On occasion they can be remarkably obvious, perched on wires, trees and bush tops, waiting to pounce on insects and small birds. This bright and striking bird is seen regularly in open woodland and bushy, open countryside.
Present in the region - April - October
