Birdwatching Tours in the Alpujarras

Bee-Eater - Merops Apiaster

Undoubtedly one of Europe's most colourful birds, the Bee-Eater is a spectacular local favourite and among the highlights of our birdwatching excursions. Bee-Eaters often perch on wires, and so are easy to see from vehicles beside roads. Bee-Eaters breed locally in colonies and, with care, can be watched closely. Nesting in sandy banks they favour warm bushy areas with orchards, open grassland and low earth cliffs.

Present in the region - May - August
