Birdwatching Tours in the Alpujarras

Roller - Coracias Garrulus

Another of Southern Spain's exotic species the Roller can deceive when perched and even look dull. In flight it reveals remarkably vivid colouration quite unlike any other European bird. Rollers are never common in South West Europe but breed at locations with our region and have been seen surprisingly close to the village. Rollers often perch on wires and posts, on the look out for their prey of large insects and small mammals. So good views are always a possibility.

Present in the region - May - August
